Historic Mosques in Makkah

Makkah is the most sacred place for Muslims, a place we would like to visit at least once in a lifetime to perform Hajj or Umrah. Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam and obligatory for all Muslims who are physically and financially able. At least 2 million people visit Makkah from different countries around the world for Hajj and Umrah. It is a huge event in terms of its significance in Islam.

Mosques in Makkah are extremely important and hold special significance in Islamic tradition. Most of these mosques have been associated with Prophet’s (pbuh) life and the lives of his companions. Pilgrims travelling to the city for Umrah or Hajj, visit the masajids in Makkah to get a better understanding of the lives of Prophets (AS).
Most of the mosques in Makkah are built in Hejazi architectural style with arched entry-ways and an open courtyard. Saudi government takes care of the renovation and maintenance of all the mosques.
Non-Muslims are forbidden from entering the city of Makkah.
